Feminism: Did we Even Get the Definition Right?

With the recent release of Shahid Kapoor starrer Kabir Singh, a lot of fiasco has happened so far. While on the one hand, people have been loving the atrocious side of Shahid Kapoor, and on the other hand, there are folks who have literally were on the verge of bashing Shahid out, calling him a misogynist and troubled man. Countering the latter, I could see many such posts on social media that said things like ‘feminist please buzz off’ or maybe ‘hey feminists take a chill pill, it isn’t about you all the time.

My point here is towards all those folks who unfortunately till today hold the opinion that feminists are those breed of fanatics, whose main motive is to vent out their anger and frustration on men, and to demean them in every possible way. Such believers feel that these so called feminists or pseudo feminists as they like to call it, love to criticise men for almost everything they do.

In that case, I would like to intimate fellows with what feminism actually stands for. As per Wikipedia,

The underlying message is that of equality. Feminism doesn’t call for someone to be beaten up or to be criticised. And, of course, feminism doesn’t promote cliches and downward thinking like ‘Men will be men’ and that ‘All men are dogs’. Talking from my personal experience, I would like to say that I have been very fortunate to be surrounded by people who believe in equality and have been equal supporters of female empowerment, be it under the heads of education, representing office, or some other field.

It's my utter request to everyone to please truly decipher the meaning of the word, understands what it means, and not use it as a ‘loose’ term.

After all, the Indian Constitution also provides for equality!
