Are All News Junkies Monotonous By Nature?

While the headline seems pretty direct, the thoughts might not come off as linear as it seems, specifically due to the fact that the concept of ‘monotony’ as perceived by others is quite varying. For instance, a long arduous lecture on metaphysics might, by default come with a monotonous tag, to a normal Jack, yet to the well-formed mind like that of a physicist, it would seem more like a replica of the addictive drug, sans which their days would be as diabolical as Lucifer.

Perhaps some of these remnants bear the same thought and when it comes to fruition, would somehow relate back to the diabolical ambience. A typical day in the life of a news junkie would encircle only and solely around news, without even reserving a special need or preference towards a particular hour of the day, it’s the first thing that typically unfolds the rest of the day, not really sure if they place an equal demand and preference for hot beverages (sometimes cold as well) in the forms of tea or coffee. Yet, usually, if studied carefully, it would be noticed that whatever the choice of beverage, news reading/scrolling churns out as the topmost priority. Yet, in such unprecedented times, the hard copies of the newspaper seem like a far fetched task, especially with India acquiring the third position in the world, amongst the worst affected nations.

Talking about the personal choice, the morning begins with a huge yawn, clubbed with reluctance to leave the bed for the day, rubbing the eyes, and clutching the phone on one hand, while the fingers tirelessly scroll through what’s trending on Twitter. This is where one thing leads to the other, and the other to another. Most common of them would be something like this - let’s say the sad affair of the demise of George Floyd, that created quite a ruckus all over the globe, with the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter making it really personal to everyone. While just eyeing through it, one just tends to read more about what The New York Times or The Washington Post is talking about, that would gradually be leading to what the industry experts have to say. Gradually, the watch reveals that it’s way past time for breakfast, and if there is a further delay, the time wouldn’t even qualify as brunch.

Things get heated and intensified more when the junkies see their favourite journalist talking about the same matter that has already been bothering. Amid all this, the news bulletin lays down an ever stringent path in the form of a cob web for the junkies, and somehow they get entangled in the rhythm. A relevant question that pops up here is to the people outside the ambit, does this practice seem insane, more to say monotonous? If that holds true at all, then are there any chances that this monotonous spirit could get infectious? Even by a little percentage?
