Why Do We Go Around The World With A Begging Bowl?

Just the other day I was listening to this monk who helped open my closed eyes far wide, so much so that I kept questioning my existence. He said that we set ourselves for unknown adventures for tiny bits of happiness much like, we set ourselves out there in the world with a begging bowl. 

Every time we do that we feel that someone is going to fill our bowl with happiness, prosperity and whatnot! But, does that happen in real life? Most of the time it doesn’t and even in those rare times when things from the external world shower a tad bit of happiness, we’ll see that it all passes, and it is meant to be as everything is just momentary. 

The monk further said that it is our fault, to begin with, to think that some external person or being can help us out of our misery and make us happy. That is to say that someone else is responsible for my own share of happiness, and this is a terrible mistake he says. 

To expand further, the monk notes that it is high time that we must be responsible for all that happens to our lives, meaning we have to take responsibility. He expounded that if we are able to follow this path, gradually we’ll be able to gain so much power within ourselves that we’ll be responsible for all that happens in our lives - including our happiness. 

He insists we be persistent enough and keep on persisting till the time we can proudly declare that we are enough for ourselves, and it is we, ourselves that are responsible for our happiness. 

The process must be repeated over and over again, till the time it is absolutely ingrained into our system. Remember, the last time you found yourself in a crisis was when you were miserable and wailed terribly, but after that, you emerged stronger than ever? 

Can you relate? Who helped you then but yourself? If that be the case then what makes you feel someone else is going to save you from your distress? It’s beautiful if you have anyone helping you out but remember you have enough, you are enough! 

So, just assert yourself and place yourself in the shoes of your real nature, and do not go around the world with a begging bowl, instead spread power and love.
