The Best

Hey there, my dear readers. I hope y’all are having a lovely time. I have been trying to have a lovely time as well, you know how it is to live in a metro city and work at a corporate job. No respite at all! But, there is a practice that I have kept up over the days and that is to think positive and exude positivity.

I bet most of you would say that it’s easier said than done in today’s times, and I can’t agree more. But, amid a giant cauldron of negativity, all you can do is try and get yourself out of all the negativity around you, and exude positivity within and all around you.

Just a few months back I was listening to a video of Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan where he said that despite knowing that everyone else around you is better than you, or even the best, you have to wake up, get out of bed everyday, and set out for work, believing that you and only you are the best.

Well, truth be told, it took me a long time to realise the true meaning of this, I had my fair share of doubts. I’d be like, “What did he just say? To treat me as the best? But, I am just so average, how can I be the best?” Then, I’d go like, “Despite knowing everyone around me is the best at what they do, why should I bother getting up, isn’t it easier to just quit?”

Then I got the answer as I delved deeper and when I knew that Shahrukh Khan isn’t Shahrukh Khan just like that. He must have had a horrendous amount of courage, perseverance, and pain tolerance built to be able to talk or even think like that.

For a person, who is used to believing herself to be average for the longest time, it took me a lot of time to rewire my thoughts, as frankly all throughout my life I have counted on external validation, and never really thought that I could be the best or excel at anything. But, this new thought process has taught me to hold my head high, even when everyone around me was turning theirs, and declare myself as the best.

It’s no mean feat, I mean, except for a narcissist, who on earth could just say that they are the best when they are doing nothing but average work. Guess we can, and we will have to.

You know, scientists say that the subconscious mind cannot really differentiate between reality and fiction. So, if we continuously keep telling it that “We are the best”, then it will only be a matter of time before it actually operates like it is the best. In my early thirties, I understood that life isn’t actually fair. I mean no matter how hard you try, things do not really go your way, and the only effective way to deal with this stress is if you feed yourself with enough positivity to deal with all the crises of life, only then will you be able to turn out victorious.

I understand that it is a long and tedious process. I guess the first step into that is believing and establishing the fact that you are the best, and everything will fall into place sooner or later.
